Born between 1450 and 1455, perhaps October 2 1453rd ‘s-Hertogenbosch, a town in the south of today’s Netherlands. Grandfather Jan and four of his five children, including the artist’s father, Anton van Aken, were painters, as were his two brothers Goossen and Jan.
The wealth of inventiveness in his works, real visions, summoned different doctrines, among them psychoanalysis, each of which gave a reading of his own, sometimes incompatible historically. Certainly his work went hand in hand with religious doctrines and intellectuals of Europe
Bosch never dated his paintings, and he signed a few. King Philip II of Spain was an avid collector of his work, and Spain is now the country which has the largest number of paintings, especially the Prado Museum in Madrid and Escorial Monastery.
On August 9, 1516 are celebrated a solemn funeral of the painter in the Chapel of Our Lady, belonging to the Brotherhood, in which registers is remembered as “Hieronymus Aquen, alias Bosh, insignis Pictor.”
