Filippo De Pisis, born in Ferrara on May 11, 1896, since teenager began to write poetry, but is also dedicated to the study of painting and it is the art to bring him, then to live an adventurous life, in various cities both Italian, both European . In 1915 knows the brothers De Chirico and enthuses remaining influenced their way of thinking about painting and, initially, it shared the metaphysical style but then short stays in Rome and Paris, in the early twenties, he sets new pictorial. The stay in Paris in 1925 lasted continuously for fourteen years proving successful in several ways, and essential under the artistic aspect.
He met various artists, for a more gestural and color, in addition to still life, he painted in that periodย cityscapes, male nudes and images of hermaphrodites.
In 1938 he returned to Italy as guest of Italo Mus with whom he began, in the painter’s studio in Saint Vincent, a short but fruitful cooperation.
At the outbreak of World War II in 1940, the symptoms of nervous disease, which was suffering since childhood, are increasingly evident, but he continues to work . Later, in Rome, he discovered the warm tones of the eighteenth-century painting, returned them in still life and flowers, which became his favorite subject. His works achieved success especially in the Venice Biennale in 1948 and 1954, but failing health in the past two years stop his creative verve; hospitalized in a clinic in Brugherio (Monza), De Pisis died on April 2, 1956….
