Camille Pissarro

Born in 1830 in the current Virgin Islands from French father and a Creole mother, just eighteen Pissarro, following her passion for drawing and the arts, he runs away from home to Venezuela, where he produced his first paintings to pay for the trip to Europe.

 On arriving in Paris he attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, where he studied, in particular, the works of Gustave Courbet and Corot, and became an appreciated member of the group  the Impressionists,
Friend of Paul Cezanne, here he portrait ….

… He often paints together with him and at the same time subjects and landscapes, as here near Pontoise ….

He supports and encourages young artists and is the first to discover the genius of Van Gogh.
His style of painting, while preserving light and characteristic colors of the Impressionists …

is for him a living figure in the country ….

He is having been for many years, with his beard of a prophet, typical figure of the artistic Parisian ….

he died in Paris in 1903.
